2017 AGM & Winter Field Days

17‐18 June 2017. Please join us for this years AGM and Winter Field days. The Venue is: The Swannanoa Community Hall, 1297 Tram Rd, Rangiora (across the road from the primary school).

Friday
Murray will be leading a pruning day at the Lincoln Hazel collection. (Weather dependant pruning in the rain can
be dangerous). 1 0:00am start at Lincoln University. He will need to borrow equipment so any and all helpers will
be welcomed. Equipment needed includes: chainsaws, lopers, helmets.

Directions: Enter Lincoln University off Ellesmere Junction Road through Gate 2 in to Calder Drive.Turn right in to
Farm Road at the first intersection. Continue to the end of Farm Road and turn left (opposite the entrance to the BHU) 
The hazel orchard is in the first gate on the right.

1 1 :00 am Biological weed control with Hugh Gourlay, Senior Researcher at Landcare Research

1 :00 pm Visit to Dale & Jo Brown's orchard at 766 Browns Rd, Swannanoa
2-2.30ish Visit to Rose & Tim's orchard at 1 20 Davis Rd, Cust (talk about orchard management, multi-stem vs
single stem trees, fertiliser, varieties to plant, pests, soil tests)
4:00 pm AGM back at the Hall
Dinner on Saturday night is booked for the Cust Hotel, an old country pub at 1 709 Cust Road.

Sunday (Map & Directions)

1 0.00 am Visit the orchard of Jeanne & Leon van Eyndhoven 581 Pesters Rd, West Eyreton (Discuss postharvest
management - drying, storage, crates vs bags, air flow, how to stack to avoid mould, washing is it
necessary.)
1 1 :00 am Visit orchard of Mark & Jenny Harris, 934 Poyntz Rd (Discussion on equipment, what's required,
sharing, irrigation)
1 2:00 pm Time for lunch and end of programme
1 :00 pm Committee meeting at Swannanoa Hall (Hall booked to 2pm)

If its too wet and cold to go on orchard visits, stay at the hall and talk.
